Penguin

African Penguins fly through the water, but not the air. The African penguin is now listed as endangered due to the loss of fishing areas and guano harvests. Wild numbers have dramatically plummeted even in the last decade. They are also at risk from oiling due to sinking ships at sea that spill their oil cargo. The Memphis Zoo has exhibited penguins since 1987. In 2000, the penguins moved into a renovated exhibit in the center of the zoo, and the flock tripled in size. Be sure and catch the daily 3 p.m. keeper feeding presentation at the east end of the exhibit. We breed 2-3 chicks each year- look for the juveniles that have a slightly different feather pattern than the black and white of the adults.

Note: On all adopt levels over $25., we charge a shipping fee of $5.00 to mail the plush.
